Being a Good Citizen: Common Sense Education

October 1, 2017

Its been a year since being a Common Sense Education Ambassador, and it was high time I looked back on what we achieved.

Last year my school created and implemented a digital citizenship framework based on the Common Sense Education. We have used it from Grades 1 to 5 and it not only involves our tech coaches and librarian but also the homeroom teachers as well. We believe that digital citizenship is a shared responsibility.

What we learned this year is that it is important to have some direct instruction with learners about digital citizenship. The idea behind the framework is a way in to classrooms to get this discussion going. Along with Easyblog we use for our Learning Stories, we help learners understand what a quality post looks like , how to respond to others online in an appropriate way and other lessons that involve our online behavior and interactions.

I look forward to seeing how the year ahead goes with our journey.
